River Park Mutual Homes SW, Washington DC

River Park Mutual Homes was developed in the early 1960’s as a part of the redevelopment of Southwest Washington, D.C. It was designed by Charles M. Goodman, FAIA: the leading practitioner of modern architecture in the area at that time. Reynolds Aluminum Corporation agreed to use this opportunity to showcase their wall systems and operating sash. Mr. Goodman worked with Reynolds to design a custom aluminum screen to be used as an additional layer of texture.

In 2005 we were asked to provide options for restoring the town home facades, at that time showing significant wear and tear. Keeping in mind Charles Goodman’s strategy for color, it was decided stay as close as possible to the original design and appearance. The facade aluminum components were refurbished, color panels were replaced with new ones with an updated color palette base on color studies done, and the unit numbers were standardized to provide an orderly appearance.
